Sega Game Gear – Sega (1990–1997)
Sega launched the Game Gear in Japan on 6 October 1990, followed by international releases during the early 1990s. Developed as Sega’s answer to Nintendo’s Game Boy, the 8-bit handheld featured a backlit colour LCD screen, landscape-style controls, and stereo sound through headphones. Its hardware was closely related to the Sega Master System, making it comparatively straightforward for developers to adapt existing games to the portable format.
