VHS - Video Home System (1976-Present)

VHS became the dominant home-video format of the late 20th century: a ½-inch analog cassette supporting SP/LP/EP recording modes (~2–6+ hours), ~240 TVL resolution (NTSC; ~250 PAL), and linear or Hi-Fi stereo audio (AFM). Adoption by major electronics brands and video distributors fueled the home-video boom until DVD displaced VHS in the late 1990s/early 2000s.
